The About the Greater Montreal Forum (GMF)

Founded in August 2019, the Greater Montreal Forum is a Quebec registered non-profit association dedicated to fostering better dialogue and discussion on issues of public policy in the Greater Montreal Area. It is our hope that this web site will reflect the wide spectrum of ideas and values that exist within our community and that it will enable a more mature dialogue between the area’s constituent communities, breaking free from the often historic and prevailing narrative that paints our communities as perennial victims, in Quebec, whether francophone, anglophone, or allophone.

The goal of the Greater Montreal Forum is to represent the middle ground between the defense of minority communities and individual rights, and assimilation into the mainstream. As centrists, we tend to appreciate both sides of this spectrum, where on the one hand, we seek a balance between community needs versus a rights debate, while, on the other hand, we accept and foster integration while maintaining our own identity. It is from this position that we hope to breathe new life into historical points of perceived impasse.

We welcome your participation in discussions on this website. We are an open forum and keep as an ideal that all reasonable opinions have the right to be tested and heard.

We encourage articles, opinions and essay submissions that represent an articulate appreciation of their author’s views in the context of issues that impact the Greater Montreal area, and the communities that live within it, in the framework of our basic values of respect, enabling the opposing voice to also be heard, acknowledging perspectives, and evolving our understanding and appreciation of each other, in a positive and healthy manner.

We aim for an end-result of thoughtful, insightful publications, discussions, and live activities that will build bridges among us all with the ultimate goal of building a better Quebec together.
